What is a ‘Shell’ in a computer registry?
Ok i have a problem with my pc. I dont get anything when my computer starts up except the background and task manager. I think i got a solution for this,
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
"Shell"="explorer.exe"
I dont understand what shell means here i got as far as login but what is this sell thing i know i have to change the value of that 'shell' to explorer.exe.
Any help would be appreciated!

A shell is a small program that provides the interface. Windows Explorer is the file manager for Windows. Thats used to view all your documents and programs, like internet explorer.
My advice is to just go buy Windows XP or burn a CD of Linux for free. Windows NT is for squares.
