Download to make windows 95/98 games compatible with Vista?

I have heard there is a download that allows old PC games (Windows 95/98) to be run on Windows Vista. I am attempting to run a 98 game (Dungeon Keeper) on my Vista but it closes after the opening screen – anyone know anything about this?

You could create a Virtual Machine on your Vista Operating System (OS). You will need some computer skills to complete the task. This way you will have a Windows 98 OS on your computer that you can run without leaving your Vista OS. Basically, it is an emulator for Windows 98.

    Preparation:
Have a Windows 98 Installation CD and a legal product key. Next I will point you in the right direction to download a virtual machine player and how to build and download a virtual machine.

    Steps:
    1. Download VMWare Player: http://www.vmware.com/download/player/

    2. Create and download a virtual machine. Go to: http://www.easyvmx.com/easyvmx.shtml Fill in the following fields:
    Virtual Machine Name:
    Select Guest OS: Windows98
    Memory Size: 320MB
    Under Hard Disk Drives:
    Disk #1: 3 or 4 GB
Now, select the button above DirectX-Experimental that says "Create Virtual Machine"
It will take you to the next page where you can "Download your virtual machine:" It is probably less than 5KB in size.

    3. Install your VMWare Player

    4. Unzip your virtual machine

    5. Put your Windows 98 Installation CD-Rom in your cd tray

    6. Start VMWare Player and open your virtual machine.

The virtual machine should start and boot from your installation CD. Here is the hard part. You have to complete a successful installation of Windows 98. Once your OS is installed on the virtual machine, you should be able to install your game on the virtual machine and play your heart out!
