What are some problems associated with windows vista?

I'm ready to get a laptop for college. My first choice is windows because I'm a gamer. However I heard a lot of complaints about windows vista. Many people told me not to get a vista. I just want to know how bad is it? What are some positives and negatives about it?

It's really not that bad. The people complaining probably didn't have the minimum requirements for it, or else pumped it so full of ever-so-helpful toolbars and virus scanners that it became unstable.

I used Vista for a couple years, and now I'm testing out Windows 7. My advice to you is to go with Vista, but wait for a bit before you do. Starting in August (I think) you will get a free upgrade to Windows 7 if you buy a computer with Vista on it.

Hardware that doesn't work, software that doesn't work. restrictive DRM. Operating system that treats you like a criminal by default.

Windows Vista operating system when first came out had a glitch in the Internet Explorer Browser. It affected gamers because it allowed the passwords of gamers to be stolen. However, Windows has since fixed this problem. Even if you do not believe you can download a seperate browser such as firefox or safari. Vista gets a bad rep. I don't know why probably because it is so different but it is a good operating system.

I haven't had any big problems with it, but I don't do much with it, so I guess I wouldn't notice as much. The only problem I could think of is that some programs aren't as up to date and only work on Windows XP or older, but now things are catching up. I'm not that great with computers…

it's really not THAT bad. they've worked out most of the bugs now, so the hardest part is relearning a browser, as you've probably been using xp for awhile. some things are different, and that's it.

however, being a graphics based browser, running vista does take up alot of RAM. therefore, be sure to get around 2 gigs of ram if you plan on doing intense gaming.

on a positive note, vista looks nice. :P

The biggest problem I've found is anytime I say "Vista" someone says something like "Vista sux lol", which is the level of the majority of Vista-hating. (Not all, but the majority.)

Vista earned its bad reputation when Microsoft released it before there was adequate hardware support. That wasn't a problem if you bought a new computer with Vista, the computer maker made sure everything matched, but was a big problem for people who bought Vista retail and tried to install it.

But that was 2 years ago. Those problems are resolved.
(I suspect Windows 7 will get a much better reputation, despite being very similar to Vista, simply because it will start with those problems already fixed.)

When my last desktop died after two years of faithful service I went out and bought a new one. I bought one that came with Windows Vista installed. I've been using Vista for about a year now and I have no complaints. It is easy to navigate your pictures and saved files, also the desktop is nice with the ability to add "gadgets". The web layout (search bar, tabs, ect) is nice and simple.

If you're used to a Mac, you'll probably hate it. It is very different from Mac operating systems.

I've never had any bug issues caused by Vista.

I hope this helps you in your computer search!

First of all, if you are a gamer, then you need to get an Alienware laptop! It's the only thing that will run Vista, and, a game at the same time! Anyway, lets start. First of all, Vista needs a shiitload of RAM to even run smoothly! I have a Dell Laptop, Inspiron 1720, Intel Core 2 Duo, and, 4GB of RAM, and I was hoping that it would run games, but, it barely does. Alienware desktops and laptops are made for gaming! Even though Alienware is more expensive, it will run games, well! So, the best choice for you is Alienware, but, if you want to, you can get a regular Windows Vista laptop, load it up with alot of power, and have the same problem that I have. (Until it's time to get a new computer, that is). Also, I forgot to mention, it has a hard time running the old Red Alert 2, and Red Alert 2 Yuri's Revenge. (sigh)
