No, you need more RAM than 128 to properly run WinXP.

256 it would run slowly; 512 would be ideal.

you also lack hard disk space.

    Been there.

Use the XP CD to check your system – if you pop it in the cd drive, there is an option to ‘check your computer’

It will tell you whether or not your computer supports it – based on the specs you provided in the question, my guess is it would work fine, although perhaps a little slow.

To install: put the XP CD in your drive and restart your computer.

When you install XP, do a complete install, not an upgrade. It will ask for partition information – reformat using the NTFS file system. The rest should take care of itself (depending on the speed of your system, it could take an hour or more to complete the install)

Unfortunately, Works 2000 is not included with a Windows Installation – you would need a copy of Works on CD to reinstall after the XP installation is complete.

    Been there.

Technically, yes. Your machine meets the requirements. Personally, I would not install Windows XP on that machine. I would get a new machine all together. I have found that Best Buy offers good support (at least the one I have went to, in Danvers, MA), if you get a service package. What I’d do with the old machine, I would keep the hard drive from the old machine and put it in the new one, so that you wouldn’t have to worry about backing stuff up.

Actually. You have BARELY enough ram to install winXP. The OS itself uses 96mb of ram, and can install with 128, I just wouldn’t recommend it. The HD space is also an issue. You have enough technically, but it’s not going to be a pretty sight afterwards.

I just wanted to make sure you knew that you could do it, but probably shouldn’t. The guy who said you can’t, is inaccurate.

    I’m a computer tech.
