It is another operating system ie a higher version of windows 98,2000,NT. Windows xp is 33 % faster than windows 98.It has many user friendly programs which makes it easy to use .

Windows XP Pro is exactly the same as Windows XP, with some minor changes.
One of those changes is that in home edition you cant join the machine to a domain (something that you only need at work – with a big network and network administrators).
If you dont have a domain (and there are no reasons for a home user to have one) you dont need pro. If you use your machine for work as well as home, and in your work you have a domain, you should get Pro, so you will be able to join the domain if you want (not compulsary – you can still connect to the other computers if you are not in the domain).
