I am in the process of switching over to linux from Windows XP. I do not have a budget, and would like to use a completely free system. Need to run GIMP, open office, and firefox. Would like good forum support as I am new at this. I am living in Thailand and would like to download everything fromt he internet. Intel x86.

i just need a computer that has XP so i can use certain programs like adobe reader 7 and such. right now i have a 10 year old gateway with 733 mhz pentium 3 proccessor and i play games like civ3 and sim city 4(barely plays sim city 4 so i quit playing it) i’ve also only got 192 ram. and i run windows ME(wich sucks). so i’ve been thinking of getting a cheaper walmart sold PC with a celeron or sempron processor both of wich have at least 512 of ram and windows XP. some even have flat screen monitors all for around 400 bucks( am on a budget preparing to bring my fiancee into the country). what should i get? will this new system with non pentium processors play my old games?(i’m not worried about playing the newer graphic intensive games.) some one with good computer Knowlege please help.
