Did Microsoft code Vista so it doesnt FRAGMENT THE DRIVE ? or do you still have to run a defrag. regularly?
Here’s one thing I wonder… they’ve had “disk defragmentation” programs in pretty much since Windows 3.1 (if not earlier), so did Microsoft get off their lazy asses and code Vista so it didn’t FRAGMENT THE FRIGGIN’ DRIVE IN THE FIRST PLACE?! Or do you still have to run a defrag regularly?

how do I defrag a drive that window will not defrag?
I have two hard drives and one I can not get to defrag by using window xp. it keep’s saying to check chkdsk and after I do that it still will not defrag. so How do I defrag this drive?
What’s the best and/or fastest way to defrag a hard drive? (and how long does it take?)?
Note: I’m interested in FREE ways only. I’m not buying software for this.
I have a laptop with Windows XP and an 80 Gig hard drive.
thrashaero, thanks! I had no idea I had to have so much empty space on the drive. Mine is almost full, so I guess I won’t do it right now.
