How do I open a file that I password protected?
I’m running Windows XP. I have a file that I didnt want my 13 year old opening. In the Windows Help and Support Center, It showed me how to password protect a file. I went through the steps. I wrote down the password so I wouldnt lose it. But now when I go to open it, It wont ask me for a password, and it says “access is denied”
I have already done the “show hidden files and folders” under folder options, but it didnt make any diffrence. And I am listed as Owner on my PC. I even got frustrated and tried to delete the whole file, but it wont even let me do that.
If I right click and hit properties, on the general tab, the attributes have a check on “hidden”. When I uncheck it and hit apply, an error comes up saying “access is denied” .
Please help.
The file doesnt have anything nasty in it. Its just clips and jokes that friends have emailed me. But some of them are something you wouldnt want a child to open.
My son is in school. If anyone really has any issues about me being my child, then at least can you offer a number to someone I can call and ask?
No, I tried that Chili. I remember haveing to make a password for it, typeing it again, and writeing it down. I remember haveing to go to start, go under accounts, looking up the folder…Now I cant even find the page of how to do it in the help and support.
I’m sorry Richard, its a whole folder that I can’t open.
Hangs my head…I don’t know how to open a MS-DOS window. Do you remember Windows for Dummies? They had me in mind when writeing that. I understood the rest of what you said, but …
Frank, the boxes are checked. I can take the check marks off, but when I hit apply, it says that “access is denied”. I cant even move the folder.
I’m logged in as Owner. Its the only account I have on here. It has me listed as computer administrator under account types.
Wow my head hurts. I learned how to open a DOS box. I opened the system files to be able to delete or edit anything. But it wont budge. I learned this can also be helpfull to know because of spyware that you go to delete and it says “access is denied”, and how to go around that error, but….my file wont move. I even did the DOS command to delete the file but it says it cant find it.
The site started to give the info on how to unhide the files that Windows really REALLY wanted to hide, but warned that I could really mess my system up, so I backed off.
Frank….I looked where you said. That box is grayed. I couldnt if I wanted to.
Frank, I checked the hotfix out, but I dont think that was meant for me. I never got a expiry notification message, or changed the password.
I want to thank you all so much for trying to help me. I know its frustrating, trying to help someone that really doesnt know much about computers. Thank you so much.
Ok, i think I found how I locked it in the first place…Open My Computer, and then locate the compressed folder.
Double-click the compressed folder.
On the File menu, click Add a Password.
In the Password box, type a password.
In the Confirm Password box, type the password again.
I’m going to go find some Advil
HELP! Time constraint! How do I burn this file as a WAV?!?
Must finish this by 3:00 PM Central for class. I am here at a public computer. (I can’t install NERO) I have with me a Mad Dog External CD Burner. I am trying to convert this MP3 file into WAV and burn it to a CD. I thought I could use Windows Media player, but it doesn’t seem to recognize the blank CD/CD burner despite XP informing me that the burner is up and ready to go with drivers. What can I do!!??
Changing the file name of the file which is already on the hard disk didn’t seem to help Windows Media Player recognize my blank CD/CD burner
I need it to be burnt to the _CD_ as a wav
Why won’t Windows Media Player recognize my CD burner?
