Can I Install Windows XP Using only a Home Network Ethernet Connection, a Floppy Drive and a Windows XP Disc?
I have an HP laptop (Pavilion N5470) that my friend has given to me with a seemingly broken CD-Rom Drive. I am trying to re-install Windows XP on it but with no luck because of the CD drive being broken. I’m thinking about using my home network to do a network installation. Is this possible? The only boot options in the BIOS are floppy, CD-Rom (doesn’t quite work), and Hard Drive. How would I start a network installation? If I cannot do a network installation then what other choices do I have? And can I do it with Linux as an alternative to Windows if Windows cannot do it?
Thanks for the help.
This laptop also has no battery, but it does however have a power cable. I doubt this makes a difference, but I will post it just in case.
I’ve tried attaching an external USB CD-Rom drive and it is not detected!

Best Practice Partition setup?
I am planning on building a new computer with three SATA drives. I am also planning to use Windows (XP or Vista) and Ubuntu Linux. What would be the best way to do this?
I envisioned putting Windows on one drive, Ubuntu on another drive, and have the third disk as a share for all my Media, possibly making that drive the biggest drive (500mb+).
Then there is the possibility of putting a windows swap partition on that third drive as well.
What do you think?
