I have Windows XP installed on an ASUS p4p800 deluxe (has AC’97 audio onboard). I do not have a sound card installed. Everything was going fine yesterday. Today, I tried playing some songs and no sound. I could see the progress bar moving accross normally. I checked the audio connection at the back. I even restarted my PC, but to no avail. I tried using the audio-out panels at the front, didnt work.

I again shut down the PC and disconnected the frotn audio panel, just in case it might’ve been doing something. But that too did not do anything. I reinstalled the audio drivers, no change.

I again shut down and checked settings in the BIOS. There was no problem over there. But I still resorted back to the defaults. That too didnt work.

Can anybody help or suggest something?
PS: The audio chip on the motherboard seems okay.
enomoney: no, i’ve checked there. nothing’s mute. all the windows sounds too are *supposedly* playing fine, still i cant hear a thing

Since 2 days my computer does a reboot from time to time (i.e when opening the explorer). In Proteced Mode it works. Yesterday Windows XP crashed, all chassis fans stopped to work instantly, but the computer was still running. After a fews secs it did a reboot, and the fans were running again. It looks like the power supply is responsible for this ?
