What is better for a college student Mac or PC?

I am doing some early research on laptops. I am thinking on buying a new laptop within the next year. I have narrow my selection to 3 options:

Dell Inspiron
HP Pavilon
Apple Mac

I am attending Baylor University. Most of my classmate have a mac. Are macs really worth it? I know macs are better with viruses. I am not a gamer; however, I do like to use picture tools for editing. I do not want to spend more than 2K in my new laptop. Will an IBM better with the new Windows Vista? What software will I need for the mac besides the Office software? Overall, what is better for a college guy an IBC or a Mac?

How do I open a file that I password protected?

I’m running Windows XP. I have a file that I didnt want my 13 year old opening. In the Windows Help and Support Center, It showed me how to password protect a file. I went through the steps. I wrote down the password so I wouldnt lose it. But now when I go to open it, It wont ask me for a password, and it says “access is denied”
I have already done the “show hidden files and folders” under folder options, but it didnt make any diffrence. And I am listed as Owner on my PC. I even got frustrated and tried to delete the whole file, but it wont even let me do that.

If I right click and hit properties, on the general tab, the attributes have a check on “hidden”. When I uncheck it and hit apply, an error comes up saying “access is denied” .

Please help.
The file doesnt have anything nasty in it. Its just clips and jokes that friends have emailed me. But some of them are something you wouldnt want a child to open.
My son is in school. If anyone really has any issues about me being my child, then at least can you offer a number to someone I can call and ask?
No, I tried that Chili. I remember haveing to make a password for it, typeing it again, and writeing it down. I remember haveing to go to start, go under accounts, looking up the folder…Now I cant even find the page of how to do it in the help and support.
I’m sorry Richard, its a whole folder that I can’t open.
Hangs my head…I don’t know how to open a MS-DOS window. Do you remember Windows for Dummies? They had me in mind when writeing that. I understood the rest of what you said, but …
Frank, the boxes are checked. I can take the check marks off, but when I hit apply, it says that “access is denied”. I cant even move the folder.
I’m logged in as Owner. Its the only account I have on here. It has me listed as computer administrator under account types.
Wow my head hurts. I learned how to open a DOS box. I opened the system files to be able to delete or edit anything. But it wont budge. I learned this can also be helpfull to know because of spyware that you go to delete and it says “access is denied”, and how to go around that error, but….my file wont move. I even did the DOS command to delete the file but it says it cant find it.

The site started to give the info on how to unhide the files that Windows really REALLY wanted to hide, but warned that I could really mess my system up, so I backed off.
Frank….I looked where you said. That box is grayed. I couldnt if I wanted to.
Frank, I checked the hotfix out, but I dont think that was meant for me. I never got a expiry notification message, or changed the password.

I want to thank you all so much for trying to help me. I know its frustrating, trying to help someone that really doesnt know much about computers. Thank you so much.
Ok, i think I found how I locked it in the first place…Open My Computer, and then locate the compressed folder.
Double-click the compressed folder.
On the File menu, click Add a Password.
In the Password box, type a password.
In the Confirm Password box, type the password again.

I’m going to go find some Advil :)

What would a computer like this run?

I asked my brother to build a computer for me for college. I told him I wanted a very fast computer that wouldn’t be obsolete in a year.
This is what he came back with. Tell me if it’s worth it.

Computer Specs are as follows:

RaidMax Mustang ATX 420Watt Computer Case

Rosewill 19″ LCD TFT Monitor

NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GX2 1GB 16X PCI Express Video Card

(2) Seagate Barracuda 10000RPM 160GB Hard Drives (SATA)

LITE-ON Combo DVD-RW / CD-RW

Patriot 2.5GB DDR PC3200 RAM

DIAMOND xtremesound xs71 7.1 Channels PCI Interface Sound Card

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Windsor 2.0ghz Dual Core Proc.

Logitech z-5500 5.1 Speaker System (505 Watts)

BenQ Wireless Keyboard and Mouse (Red, to match the case.)

Windows XP

Total cost: $1251.31
I’m sorry, it is DDR2, And I don’t understand how a 2.0GHZ Dual Core HT Proc is “Low-End” I don’t know much about computers, maybe I typed some of the specs incorrectly. I was generally asking if the computer itself was worth $1200.

Should I stay away or return to a very very controlling and possessive husband?

I am married to a muslim not from my homeland but I am staying with him for the past 12 years ofcourse it was a love marrige after a 7 year long affair, but after the marrige he changed completely, b4 marrige i was working and used to travel alone to other countries and he knew that but now i have to take permission to go out with my kids for a stroll. Also they are the only reason I have been in this marrige 4 soo long as one of my kids has a terminal illness a genetic disorder which has no cure. He is very attached to his father(my son) & I feel guilty also that if I take him away from his father he will never forgive me for that. Although it was a love marrige after the marrige the love went out of the window. Please give me answers which are possible & helpful for me and the kids in a long run.
I am also very scared of him now. As I hate fights so if I try to talk it starts with a talk and ends up in a fight????? I have never been scared of anyone or anything b4 all this. I have to literally take an appointment to talk with him. Its true I love him but DOES HE???
There is little chance that my son will grow up to be like his father as he is ten and mentally retarted and has maybe by the grace of God just a few more years to live. I am a Christian.

What would you do? How would you react?

Yesterday evening, I was supposed to pick up my 14 year old niece at 6 pm. I went to pick her up and she ran out and smacked my window about a mile before I got to her boyfriend’s house, where she was supposed to be. She’d gone off to the skate park instead, with her friends. She swore her mom knew and that it was okay, so I said I’d pick her up at 7:30. I came back and couldn’t find her. I drove out 1/4 tank of gas looking for her, worrying. I finally found her. My fear turned to anger, making me so mad I couldn’t see straight, hardly. We had plans this week– I even took a day off work to spend time with her, go fun places, enjoy all of it. We were going to go to Cypress Gardens and Kissimmee. She knew the plans but said, after all I’d been through and with me going to lose $50 on my next paycheck for the day off, that she wants to spend the night at a sleepover instead. I left the situation in her parents hands, but what should I do– how should I react?
If possible, I would also like to know what teenage girls think.
I emailed the question to my niece so she can check it out, see what people think of this situation, and I’d like us both to be able to hear what others in her age group think and what she thinks, if she’d like to answer.
